Margareth Menezes – Brazilian power samba
Margareth Menezes is one of the greatest representatives of Bahian music and a famous actress, as well as the Minister of Culture in Brazil since 2023!
The talented singer and songwriter grew up in a neighborhood on the outskirts of Salvador. Since the 1980s she has been well known in Bahia’s music scene – with traditional Brazilian and Afro-Caribbean rhythms, and was the first to bring the explosive energy of the carnival atmosphere to the stage. With her powerful voice and unique blend of samba, axé and reggae, she quickly broke through internationally. Her 1991 album “Kindala” became a huge success and established her position in the music world.
As Minister of Culture and is known for her commitment to social issues – focussing mainly on promoting Afro-Brazilian culture and addressing social issues.
